Matthew Lee Turnbo was born April 13, 1939 in Margaret, Alabama to Mary and Paul Turnbo. He was the 3rd child born to this union. He quietly answered the call of his Heavenly Father on June 7 , 2023.
Matthew accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Clark Memorial Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, PA. He dropped out of school in the 11th grade and joined the U.S. Army. While in the army he received his GED. He was also a Light heavyweight Boxing Champion at Ft. Hood, Texas from 1959-1960. Upon discharge he continued his education and received a degree in Nursing and a master’s degree in psychology from San Jose State University in San Jose, CA. There he met and married Gwendolyn Craig in 1978. To this union was born one son, Nicholas Turnbo. Matthew has two other sons. Terrence Turnbo and Scott Turnbo.
Matthew owned and operated Turnbo Tax Service for 20 years. He joined True Vine Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon in 2002 where he served for 15 years. Matthew loved serving the Lord at True Vine. He served as president of the Medical Team, on the Finance Team and in the Prayer and Decision Ministry.
Matthew was known for his infectious smile, loving spirit, his words of wisdom and his humorous stories. He loved listening to Jazz, watching old westerns, and playing dominoes. He also liked solving cryptogram puzzles.
He is proceeded in death by his mother, Mary Cannon Turnbo, his father, Paul Turnbo, two sisters Pauline Johnson and Charla Mae Brower, and two brothers, Richard C Turnbo, and Alfred Turnbo
He leaves to cherish his loving memory , his wife of 45 years, Gwendolyn Turnbo; three sons, Terrence, Scott and Nicholas Turnbo (wife Kimberly), two brothers, Paul (wife Alicia) and Derrol (wife Kimberly) and 5 grandchildren Silas, Ka’Shawn, E’Myah, Kymia and Kaleah and a host of other relatives and Friends. He will be greatly missed.
