On April 25, 2023, Minnie M. Monroe, affectionately known to many as Peggy, went Home to be with the LORD. Her Heavenly Father called her to eternal life and rest away from the sorrows of this world. Minnie was born December 11, 1939, to her parents, Benny and Maria Thompson at home in San Antonio, TX. Minnie proudly attended Phyllis Wheatley High School and graduated in 1958. Minnie gave birth to 4 children– Robin, Rhonda, Mark who preceded her in death and her surviving daughter, Monica. In later years, she married William H. Monroe who preceded her in death as well. Minnie was a very strong, independent, and opinionated woman who shared her wisdom and insight with family and friends. She was not shy about letting someone know what “right” looked like. Minnie was a very compassionate and caring person. Her Christian faith and upbringing made her so. She translated her compassion into a formal calling into a nursing career successfully graduating from the Baptist Health System School of Nursing. For many years as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) she cared for many patients given to her care working until 2020. She worked at various nursing homes including the San Antonio State Hospital and the Villa Rosa Rehabilitation Center. Minnie was a member of the Wheatley High School Class Reunion Committee, and a proud member of the American Legion. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching movies, and solving crossword puzzles. Minnie is survived by and will be dearly missed by her brother, Frank Thompson, her children, Robin Foley, Rhonda Cotton (John), Monica Ardoin (Steven); Grandchildren, Floyd, Eric, Tiffany, Michael, April, Christopher, Raven and Robyn, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; numerous other loving family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Bennie and Amy Thompson, her son Mark, her grandchild, Matthew, and her husband William H. Monroe.
