Nancy Cardenas Alvarez

Nancy Cardenas Alvarez, age 74, gained her angel wings on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. She was born on January 24, 1952, in Seguin, Texas, to Sofia and Guadalupe Cardenas.

Affectionately known as “Negra” by her family, Nancy was a strong-willed, spirited, and unforgettable firecracker of a woman. She lived life with a big heart, a strong personality, and a love for her family that could be felt by everyone around her.

Nancy attended Seguin High School, where she met the love of her life, Jose. Their love story began as young sweethearts, and they went on to marry, start a family, and build a beautiful life together. Fifty-seven years later, their love and commitment remained as strong as ever.

Nancy was a wonderful cook who found joy in bringing people together around good food and great memories. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was always by her husband Jose’s side, supporting him and loving him and their family through every chapter of life.

Nancy and Jose shared many adventures together, including dancing, trips to the casinos, and, most of all, their beloved family cruises. For Nancy, there was nothing more precious than spending time with the people she loved. She especially enjoyed hosting family barbecues, where laughter filled the air and she could often be heard singing along to her favorite Spanish songs.

Some of the most treasured memories her children will carry in their hearts are the simple moments spent together as a family—especially evenings at the drive-in theater, surrounded by the people Nancy loved most. Those moments captured what mattered most to her: family, love, laughter, and togetherness.

Nancy leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories that will forever live on in the hearts of her husband, Jose G. Alvarez Jr., mother, Sofia A. Aguirre; her children, Roxane Porter and her husband, Scott, Jose Alvarez III and his partner, Norma Magdaleno; grandchildren, Adan A. Trevino and Joseph D. Alvarez; One great grandchild Jaxon Alvarez; siblings, Guadalupe Benavides, Raymond Cardenas and Lisa Martinez and extended family, and all who were blessed to know her.

She is preceded in death by her biological father Guadalupe Cardenas and her stepfather Joe Aguirre and two brothers, David Cardenas and Ruben Cardenas.

Though her presence will be deeply missed, her laughter, her strength, her songs, her cooking, and her fierce love for her family will never be forgotten.

Rest peacefully, Negra. Your angel wings were well deserved. Until we meet again, you will forever be loved, remembered, and carried in our hearts.
