July 10, 1931 ~ July 30, 2023

Born in: West Memphis , Arkansas
Resided in: Cibolo , Texas

Othal Lee Jenkins was born in Proctor Township, Crittenden County, Arkansas, on July 10, 1931, to the late Sidney Jenkins and Elzena Howard Jenkins.
As a youngster, Othal attended elementary and high school in Meadville, PA. Several years later, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from San Jose State University in San Jose, California.
Othal married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Tanner, on November 20, 1970, and this union remained as one until his passing. They celebrated 52 years of marriage this year.
Othal was baptized in Jesus Name at an early age. He received the gift of the Holy Ghost at the Light of the World Cathedral (PAW) in San Jose, California in 1972. He was actively committed to the ministry under the Late Bishop Theophilus A. Price, who would later become the 43rd Episcopal District Diocesan of the South Pacific Islands.
Othal was blessed and privileged to serve under that ministry as a Deacon, with the Building Fund Ministry, on the Usher Board, with Church Photography, as a Finance Official, and on the Pastor’s Aid Committee.
Othal was employed with the State of California Employees Worker’s Compensation Insurance, where he excelled in sales for many years.
In 1996, Othal and Gwendolyn received “sweetheart deals” that enabled them both to retire early from their employment. They moved to San Antonio, Texas, where Gwendolyn grew up, to be near family.
From 1996-2003, Othal served at Lincoln Park Church of Christ (later changed to Conquerors Assembly) under the leadership of Elder Jonathan Ellis. While Gwen was in prayer, she was prompted by the Holy Spirit for them to unite with and join Greater Faith Temple Apostolic Church (later changed to Genesis Full Life Fellowship Church) in October 2003, under the pastorage of Elder Douglass Thompson.
He faithfully continued to serve the ministry in many ways: the Building Fund Ministry, Church Photography, Senior Ministry, Pastor’s Aide Committee, Doorkeepers, Hospitality Committee Greeter, a supporter of the Home Education Ministry, and the Board of Directors for 12 years, until his health began to fail.
The little ones adopted Othal as “Papa” they loved him and would always check to see if he had candy. He delighted in happiness and joy.
During Othal and Gwen’s courtship, they both agreed to do something constructive with their time. The couple enrolled in Anthony’s Real Estate School in San Mateo, California and obtained real estate licenses in the late sixties and early seventies.
When he moved to San Antonio, he was encouraged by Pamela Callies, owner/broker of New Home Realty, LLC to join her team. Othal worked in real estate for New Home Realty for approximately 18 years, where he was a top performer on her team. He enjoyed assisting church members with buying and
selling homes in the San Antonio area, as well as anyone else interested in becoming a homeowner.
Othal is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Elzena Jenkins, a brother, Sidney Jenkins Jr., a favorite sister, Atlean and son, Jeffrey Jenkins, a nephew, Craig Jenkins, a brother-in-law, Jesse Tanner.
Affectionately called Babe, “Bro Hal”, Daddy O, Daddy J, Papa, Dad, he leaves to mourn his death his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Tanner Jenkins. No children were born to this union, but he leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters by a previous marriage: Saundra Jenkins, Kathleen Jenkins Fields, Paige (Brian) Wright, Kim Johnson, Monique V. McKinney, all reside in the state of California; brothers in law: Charles Butch Tanner (Barbara), Robert Chenault Jr; sisters in law: Sandra Chenault, Linda Tanner, and Kim McFarland (Johnny); and 29 grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins in California, North Carolina, Texas, and Washington.
His special spiritual family includes: daughters (grandsons) – Necole Fryar (Mark Anthony), Calvester Robinson (Frederick Belford), and Sharon Hardie.
