October 1, 1952 ~ September 17, 2026

Born in: Bay City, Texas
Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

Patricia Ann Smith-Newsome Jones, affectionately known as “Pat,” peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home on September 17, 2026, at VITAS Inpatient Hospice Care in San Antonio, Texas.

Patricia was born on October 1, 1952, in Bay City, Texas, to Lincoln H. Smith and Thelma D. Brown Smith. She was their only child. She attended Bay City Independent School District and graduated from Bay City High School in the Class of 1971. Following high school, she continued her education at West Texas State University, studying Data Management from 1971 to 1974.

After college, Patricia began her career as a dispatcher with Lubbock Fire Rescue. Through this work, she demonstrated the dedication, responsibility, and commitment to helping others that would remain hallmarks of her life. On September 18, 1984, she joined the United States Army, where she served as an Information Systems Operator Analyst (74B) / Information Technology Specialist (25B). Her military career took her to several locations, including Honolulu, Hawaii; Killeen, Texas; Brunssum, Netherlands; and Atlanta, Georgia. She faithfully served her country for 20 years before retiring on September 30, 2004.

Following her military service, Pat made San Antonio, Texas, her home. She continued her commitment to service through her involvement with the VA Hospital and remained active in her community. Her compassion and willingness to assist others were evident in all that she did.

Faith was also an important part of Pat’s life. She became a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas, where she served on the Usher Ministry#2 and was a member of the Manson New and Imogene White Sunday School Class. She remained active in the church until her health began to decline. She was also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and the Hillard Alumni Association in Bay City, Texas.

Pat’s love for family and others was expressed in many ways. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, family member, and friend. She married the love of her life, Mr. Larry Jones, and their love and companionship remained a cherished part of her life. She found great joy in cooking and baking. The kitchen was where Pat expressed her creativity and love, often putting a smile on Larry’s face. The memories made around her kitchen table will remain a treasured part of her legacy. She had a deep love for animals and held a special place in her heart for her beloved fur babies, Bullet and Kibbles. Her tenderness toward animals reflected the caring, compassionate spirit she shared with everyone around her.

Patricia leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Larry Jones; her daughters, Nicole Davis, Miche’l Jones, and Natkia Bradley; her son, Jordan Jones; her grandchildren, LaCourtney, Shay-Shay, Sam, Jamaude, Princeton, Warrenton, Samantha, Anthony, Carson, Massiah, MaeAnnah, JLeon, Jessie-Lynn, and Zakiah; her great-grandson, Ka’Mazi; her beloved fur babies, Bullet and Kibbles; her cousins, Curtland, Andrew, Anthony, George, Shawn Woods, Kenneth Hall, and Clarence Johnson; her dear friends, Nina Tucker, Macheral Jones, and Alexanderia Mesfin; her Godchildren, Kisha Mize, Shannon Pestel, and Russ Tucker; her Antioch church family; and a host of other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lincoln H. Smith and Thelma D. Brown Smith; her grandparents; her aunts and uncles; and five cousins.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Kenneth and Jan’nel Gray and the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Care team for the compassion, care, and support they provided to Patricia and her loved ones during her final days.

Pat’s life was defined by service, faith, love, compassion, and generosity. She touched many lives through her work, military service, church involvement, friendships, cooking and baking, her love of family, and her care for animals. Though she has departed this earthly life, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

“Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
