Paul Andrew Kmec, USAR, MSgt, Ret., passed away November 30th, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Andrew and Sophia Kmec on November 22nd, 1945, Paul was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He grew up in the Cleveland area and attended schools in Garfield Heights and Independence. From there he attended Ohio University in Athens, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts specializing in photography. Drafted by the Army during the Vietnam War, Paul served a tour in Germany. He continued his service in the Army Reserves and retired after 32 years. He worked for MEBCO Contractor Supply and later purchased the business, serving the glass and glazing industry of Greater Cleveland. He was an active member and officer of the AUSA Chapter of Cleveland. After retiring from his contracting supply business, he and his wife, Jackie, moved from Brecksville, Ohio to San Antonio, Texas. Paul is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jackie Woody Kmec, brother and sister-in-law James and Kathleen Kmec, along with his daughter, Sarah Kmec, step-daughter Shannon Harris, step-son Ryan Melton, and step-grandsons, Riley Harris, and Leo and Max Melton. The family would like to acknowledge the overwhelming care and support of both Blossom Care Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice. A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday , December 13, 2013 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (http://www.lbda.org) or a charity of choice.

  2. Paul was the section Sergeant when I was the full-time training officer with the 256th General Hospital (USAR) in Cleveland, OH. We kept in touch sporoticly over the years. I last saw him a few years ago at one of the unit get togethers. Paul was an excellent soldier and genuinely wonderful man. I was always proud of our association and pleased as he moved up in rank. Jackie and family: I’m sorry to hear of your loss. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

    served with him in the 256th. He taught me so much about photography and I

    still have the plaque he created for the 256th hanging in my Floriday room.

    Not sure how you heard about Paul, but am glad that you were notified. He is now at peace after 5 years of Lewy Body Dementia. I am so glad that he is now keeping all entertained in his after life.
