Paul Stanley Cassel was born the second child to Novel Cassel, Sr. and May Zella Allen Cassel on June 13, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas, He was a big baby, weighing over ten
pounds at birth.
Paul Stanley received his formal education in the San Antonio Independent School District at Grant Elementary School, Dunbar Junior High School, and Brackenrdge High School. Paul, was a star athlete on the Brackenridge Eagles football team leading them to become District Champions. Due to his superior athletic abilities and physical stature, Paul was heavily recruited to play football as he and his parents were “wined and dined” by colleges across the United States. Paul decided to attend an HBCU school accepting a full scholarship from Prarie View A&M University. While at Prairie View, Paul was inducted into the Panther Athletic Club. Paul Stanley always had enormous charm and a hilarious sense of humor, often creating rhymes, thought provoking phrases, and words of wisdom and knowledge that challenged individuals to think.
Paul’s employment started at an early age. He took on various positions at several companies including Shoe Shine Man at the Greyhound Bus Station; a neighborhood newspaper carrier; a life guard a the inner-city pool; a worker on the oil rig; and a Skycap at the San Antonio International Airport.
Paul Stanley would spend his summers and every holiday in the country on his grandmother’s (Artessia Brown-Allen) ranch located on the Colorado River in West Point, Texas, learning how to ranch, hunt, fish and raise livestock. Paul’s nickname by his greatgrandfather (Joe Cephus Brown) was Pal. Paul would spend his money purchasing and training a herd of thoroughbred and quarter horses. He would buy Shetland ponies for his baby sister (Darlene Cassell-Walker). His experience in the country intrigued his interest in horses where he would grow up to spend his leisure time racing, winning and investing in quarter horses. The love for horses has continued with his nephew Alvin (Al) House. Paul & Al would make monthly trips to Waelder, Texas to feed and train Alvin’s horses.
Paul was born into the Church of God in Christ where he attended West End. As a youth he participated in Sunday School, Sunshine Band, Purity Class, Junior Church, YPWW, and the choir. Paul Stanley Cassel married Gloria Ann Lee on November 16, 1988. They purchased a beautiful home in Live Oak, Tx. The couple was together until Gloria’s death on June 9, 2013. Paul Stanley was a loving and supportive son, brother, husband and uncle.
Paul leaves to cherish all of the beautiful memories with his sisters Patricia Ann and Darlene Artessia (husband, Krafus), Nieces -Zofolyn (Shon), Attorney Artessia (Tess), Mayzella (Sheree-AKA- DJ Baby Blue Diamond), Attorney Christina, nephew Alvin (Al), great-nieces Tashea, Autumn, and Isabella (Bella), great-nephews- Warren, De’Andre, and Quintin and a host of family and friends.
