With grateful hearts for a life well lived, we celebrate the life and legacy of Ms. Peggy J. Howard, who peacefully entered eternal rest on July 3, 2026.
Peggy was born on October 6, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas, to Clarence Edward Humphreys and Jean A. Collins. A proud graduate of Wheatley High School, she later attended cosmetology school before embarking on a life filled with hard work and service to others. Throughout the years, Peggy wore many hats, including working as a truck driver, but her greatest joy came from caring for people. Caregiving was more than a job—it was her calling. She had a compassionate heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Peggy had a personality that was impossible to forget. She was outgoing, welcoming, and genuinely kind. To Peggy, there were no strangers—only friends she had not yet met. Her smile, laughter, and gift for conversation made everyone feel at home in her presence.
She loved life’s simple pleasures. Whether she was playing bingo, enjoying a spirited game of cards, or listening to her favorite blues music, Peggy knew how to make every moment count. She especially adored her beloved dogs, affectionately known as “her boys,” who brought her endless happiness and companionship. She also took pride in her appearance and believed in always looking her best. No matter the occasion, Peggy carried herself with confidence, style, and grace.
A faithful member of St. Stephen’s Baptist Church, Peggy leaned on her faith throughout her life. Her trust in God guided her through both joyful times and life’s challenges, and she found comfort and strength within her church family.
Above all else, Peggy cherished her family. She leaves to treasure her precious memories her loving son, Robert Adrien Humphrey and his wife, Barbara; her grandchildren, Elicia Smith and Shawn Humphrey; her great-grandchildren, Elijah Hawley, Daijah Guice, Deinijah Williams, Marshawn Humphrey, Sha’Kim Humphrey, Akaysha White, and Aejanae Humphrey; her great-great-grandchildren, Royce Guice, Reign Guice, Rayden Guice, Reilani Guice, Royal Hines, Adore Hines, and Hazel Mae Humphrey; her beloved niece, Alice Robinson; and a host of extended family members, lifelong friends, neighbors, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness and love.
She was welcomed into eternal rest by her beloved husband, Ned Howard Jr.; her parents, Clarence Edward Humphreys and Jean A. Collins; and her siblings, Ernest Humphreys, Lois Nolan, and Clarence Humphreys.
Peggy leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, laughter, resilience, and unwavering faith. She showed us the importance of treating others with kindness, working hard, loving deeply, and finding joy in every day. Although our hearts are saddened by her passing, we rejoice in knowing that her beautiful spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched.
Her memory will forever be a blessing, and her love will remain in our hearts always.
