richard messer

January 11, 1940 ~ June 10, 2024

Born in: Louellen, Kentucky
Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

Richard Messer Sr. was born January 11, 1940 in Louellen, Kentucky to loving parents Perry Messer and Elizabeth Gatliff. He passed away June 10, 2024 at the age of eighty-four.

Richard was an extraordinary Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. He often enjoyed hunting, fishing, and frequenting the local VFW with fellow Veterans. However, there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending his time surrounded by his family and friends. Richard was a hard-working man who could usually be found working on various pieces of kitchen equipment on the tailgate of his truck or in front of a BBQ pit where he loved to do his cooking. He was a very giving, compassionate, and humble man who was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need.

Richard is preceded in death by both parents, as well as sisters Eunice Randall, Ethel Messer, JoAnn Bishop, Toni Barkelew, and brothers Samuel, Maurice, Phillip and George. Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving wife of nearly 60 years Kay, sister Jeanie Funk, sons Richard Messer Jr. (Darlene), Perry Messer (Holly), and daughter Cindy Miller, grandchildren Joshua Messer (Jessica), Jared Messer (Elise), Hunter Messer, Cooper Messer, Keller Messer, Piper Messer, Madison Miller, and Ashlyn Miller, as well as great-grandchildren Lincoln, Adare, and Elena.

Richard leaves behind a life and legacy that will not soon be forgotten. He will be dearly missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him.
