Thinking of your family.
Rita Jean Hansen

September 18, 1947 ~ September 18, 2023
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful mama, Rita Jean Hansen, on September 18, 2023, in San Antonio, TX, on her 76th birthday. She was born in Ottawa, IL. to Alice (Davis) and Michael Scanlon.
Rita was a devoted mother and had a great love for her daughters, Alice Stewart and Annie McEntire (Stewart). She had a very beautiful and close relationship with both of her daughters, and always gave the best advice.
Rita had a special love with her son-in-law Kerry McEntire who she always said he was the son she always wanted. Her daughters called him “The Golden Child”.
She has four grandchildren who love and adore her because she was a loving and whimsical Grandma. Her granddaughters are Lauren Chemleski and Kristal McEntire. Her grandsons are Christopher and Myles McEntire. Rita also just got to celebrate her first great grandchild, a baby boy, Aurelius Chemleski on April 15th. Nothing in life gave her more joy than being with her grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her sister Bonnie Grummett, brother-in-law Ron Grummett, her brother Dan Scanlon, and sister-in-law Juanita Scanlon. She loved her siblings and went on many adventures with them.
Rita was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Alice Scanlon (Davis) and Michael Scanlon, her sister Pat Scanlon, and her husband Jack C. Hansen.
She has a passion for writing poetry and is a published author. She was very adventurous and loved to travel especially if there was a casino there. She had a great sense of humor and a huge caring and giving heart. She worked her first job as a key punch operator on some of the first computers. She also worked in the banking industry and owned a striping business with her first husband Wayne Stewart, the father of her two children, whom she was married with for 22 years. Rita was very Godly and volunteered at her Catholic Church which included being a CCD teacher. She loved spending time with her family celebrating holidays especially with her grandchildren, they were her world. Rita will be forever remembered by all who knew her for her kindness, her generosity to those who needed help and her ability to be grateful even in the hard times. Some wise words she always shared are: “This too shall pass.” “There’s a light at the end of every tunnel.” “Always look for a silver lining” and “Your glass is always half full.”
Her family takes great comfort, knowing she will continue to walk with them through life until they are in her arms again because they know her love will never die.
