Robert McMillan

robert mcmillan

January 19, 1943 ~ January 15, 2022

Born in: San Antonio, Texas
Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

Robert was born on January 19, 1943 to Agnes Scypion and Rockfellow McMillan. Robert was also known as “Smacks” and “Chef Bob” by his family and friends. He had seven brothers and sisters all of which are deceased.

Robert went to school in San Antonio at Wheatley High School.  Even though he did not complete high school he went on to join the US Army from 1962 – 1964 and was stationed in Korea. He was head of the communications division and was one of the first to receive word of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

On February 16, 1973, he married an Oklahoma native, Marlyne E. Glass. Two children were born to this union, MarLynn and Katherine.

Robert was a very driven and ambitious worker.  He was able to accomplish so much without a high school diploma. He went on to work for the San Antonio Bright Shawl, The Argyle, and the San Antonio Country Club.  While working at the Bright Shawl he received his chef credentials.

He later went to work at Brooke Army Medical Center. He also taught himself to do ice sculptures.  He was so good he trained others as well. However, his passion was always cooking, so while working at BAMC he owned and operated Chef Bob’s catering for 12 years.  He retired from BAMC on January 31, 2005 after 18 years.

Robert enjoyed music, playing pool, golf, cheating his daughters at card games, basketball, football, and gardening.

On January 15, 2022, Robert passed away peacefully after battling COPD for more than five years and being hospitalized almost 4 months. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife MarLyne; daughters, MarLynn Forbes and Katherine Savage; sons-in-love, Dave Forbes and Benjan Savage; grandkids, Terence Savage, Dave Anthony Forbes, II, Kayla Savage, Kyla Savage and MayLynn Forbes; nephews, Robert Petty, Jr., Robert Burkes, Jr. and Donald Burkes.  He was also greatly loved by the Gamble Family (cousins), the Forbes Family (in-laws), and a host of friends and relatives.  He will definitely be missed.
