Rodney Paul Reyes

Rodney Paul Reyes went to his eternal home on May 17, 2024. He was born August 31, 1952.

Rodney graduated from Southwest High School and later worked as a teacher’s aide for several years.  Furthermore, he served as a member of the Southwest ISD Advisory Board. Recently he helped by supporting an orphanage of 31 children in Nueva Rosita, Mexico.  Every payday he would buy a large bag of rice and one of beans and other groceries and clothes. These were picked up and sent to Mexico.  Rodney loved children and for many generations of kids in our family there are cherished fun memories.  His generosity was shown when he waited for Christmas, Easter and birthdays, to surprise the nieces and nephews with cards, candy, their favorite toys and of course a pinata.  He was always ready to help those in need. Rodney was unconditionally devoted to our parents, Paul Jr. and Eva Reyes.  In their golden years he moved into their home and was caregiver and chauffeur.  He loved working on the family farm, in spite of his handicap, he was always taking care of bailing hay, driving the tractor, and tending to the cattle, horses and sheep.  He never left our parent’s side until their demise.  Rodney leaves behind a legacy of love, courage, resilience, generosity and friendship.  He never met a stranger.  His warm personality will be greatly missed by our family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Reyes Jr. and his mother, Eva Vela Reyes.  He is survived by his siblings, Mary Eloise Griffith (Roddy); Pauline Reyes Sanders (Bobby Sr.); Helen Reyes, and Daniel Reyes. His cousin, Brenda Guillen. His Nieces, Elke Simmons Lara (Mark); Monica Trevino, and nephew Bobby Sanders Jr.; Grandnieces, Ashley Trevino, Avery Trevino; Grandnephews, Adam Michael Sanders, Adrian Sanders; Great-grandniece, Allie and Great-grandnephew, Noah.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at Windsong Christian Center, UMC
