Ronald Wayne Jones

ronald jones
Ronald was the fourth child born to Walter and Martha Jones, on February 12, 1959. Wayne, as he was known, started school in the Mobile County School System. In 1967 the family moved to San Antonio where he continued his in education in the SAISD System. He was a member of Boyd Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he was baptized and sang in the youth choir. He attended Samuel H. Gates Elementary, Jefferson Davis Middle School, and Sam Houston High School, where in 1977 he graduated from the vocational education program, becoming a welder. He joined Union Iron Workers Local 66 and became the youngest apprentice in the Union. He worked on many projects in the city, and was the Foreman on the Alamo Dome Construction. He was known among his fellow Iron Workers as the 'Black Cat', for his ability to walk on the narrowest of iron. Jonesy loved his job and was quite comfortable with his knowledge of 'iron'. He married Tandolyn Hardaway, to this union Kahlia was born. Wayne was an avid cook and fisherman; he loved to be around water and would sit for hours with his pole in the water. His talent for cooking came from his mother; he would emulate her in his cooking skills. He later met and married Karen Garcia. The two of them lived a full life and endured his illness. Wayne's mantra was that he was, "going to live until he died". And that he did just that, making sure that all who encountered him left him with a smile on their face. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Walter; brothers, Walter Buster and Walter Jerome. Ronald is survived by his wife, Karen Jones; daughter, Kahlia Jones; step-mother, Earlene Jones; step-daughters: Vanessa Chavira and husband Carlos Sandoval, and Alexis Gabriel; step-son, Jacob Gabriel; granddaughter, Cerenity Chavira; sisters: Audrey Herring and Rosalind Jones; brothers: Terrace and wife Janice Jones, Kenneth and wife Paula Jones.
