Ruben Jose Castro, Jr., a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas, on September 9, 2026, at the age of 74. He was born on February 22, 1952, in the Canal Zone, Panama, to Ruben Jose Castro, Sr. and Natalia Puello Castro.

Ruben was a man with a creative spirit and a genuine appreciation for the beauty found in everyday life. He had many passions throughout his life, including playing the guitar, painting, photography, and tending to his beloved plants. Whether he was creating something with his own hands, capturing a special moment through his camera, caring for his plants, or simply spending time with those he loved, Ruben found joy in the things that allowed him to express himself and connect with the world around him.

Above all, Ruben treasured his family. He was a devoted husband and father whose love was shown not only through his words, but through the countless ways he cared for those around him. He was incredibly generous and selfless, always willing to give of himself to help someone else. Even during times when he was sick, Ruben remained full of life, maintaining the spirit and warmth that made him so special to the people who knew and loved him.

Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben Jose Castro, Sr. and Natalia Puello Castro.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of fifty years, Margarita Q. Castro; his daughters, Jeannette Castro and Crystal Castro; his grandson, Oliver Rodriguez; his siblings, Hilda Castro, Melva Squires, Miriam Squires, Irazema Squires, and Belkis Squires; his stepfather, George Squires; and his dear friends, Tito, Tyrone, and Alex.

Ruben will be remembered for his creativity, generosity, humor, and zest for life. His presence brought warmth to those around him, and the memories he created with his family and friends will remain close to their hearts. Though he is deeply missed, the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the moments he shared will continue to be a lasting part of his family’s story.

Ruben leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, creativity, selflessness, and family—a legacy that will live on through all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
