Ruby worked for many years for Chromalloy Turbine Support until her retirement.  She was the “voice” of Turbine. At any given time you called Turbine, you spoke to her.  She loved being with her brothers and sister, who also worked alongside her at Turbine.  She was the main Switchboard Operator.  During the 1980s until around 2000 she was a member of the Exotic Civic and Social Club, where they did many services for the community. She was previously married to the late Ed Nious and to this union one son was born, Reginald. On October 27, 1977  she married the love of her life, the late Tilford Grant.  They were married for 41 years until he was called home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2018.

Ruby was known by her friends and family as “Peggy”.  She loved being with her family.  Everyone that knew her, knew her love for God, her husband, her son and daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved playing dominos at family events where she was known to run the table with her sister Steenie.  Her bond with her sister was very close. Her grandchildren called her “Granny or Granny Grant”.

Ruby was known to say whatever came to mind, in her last days she expressed on numerous occasions, “I told the Lord I am ready to go but he is taking too long.”  She departed this life on Thursday, January 13, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband Tilford, her parents Hulan and Lillie, brothers Hulan “Bill”, Lee “Red”, Anthony “Tony” and Eugene “Buster”, sister and brother in law Harold and Ernestine “Steenie” and grandson Tyrice Hill.

She leaves to cherish her memory: son and daughter -in-law, Reggie and Shelawn Brown; step-children, Felisha Grant, D.L. Tilford Grant, Jr. and Darren Grant; grandchildren, Brandon Bratcher, Dominique Johnson, Jasmyne Brown, Devonte Brown, Reginald Brown, Jr., Brandy Palmer, Michael Palmer, Jr. and six great grandchildren; all of San Antonio, Texas; aunts,  Mildred “Sweety” Bell, Utley, Texas, Barbara Jean Harris, Webberville, Texas, and Annette “Jewel” Henderson, San Antonio Texas; sisters -in-law, Josephine Waite, Nell Collins and Mildred Grant Matthews; loving niece, Nichelle “Nikki” Meadows, Jacksonville, Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She will be truly missed.  She got her wish to go be with the Lord and her sister.  Heaven has gained a beautiful Angel.
