Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

Rudolph “Rudy” Owens, Jr., born February 2, 1968 in San Antonio, Texas, to parents Rudolph Owens, Sr. and Gloria Ford Owens, transitioned to his eternal home on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

Rudy began his education at Hartfield Elementary School in Houston, Texas; after relocating to San Antonio, Texas he attended Emerson Middle School, graduating from Fox Tech High School in 1987 where he played on the Varsity football team. He attended Huston-Tillotson University becoming a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Delta Chapter on April 11, 1990 and graduated with a B.A. in Education. Later he received his Master of Education degree from Wayland Baptist College in 2009. He worked in the San Antonio Independent School district for 22 years, teaching and coaching at Margill Elementary, and P.S. Stewart Elementary.

Rudy accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age encouraged and led by his mother and his beloved great aunt, Clemmie Grant. He grew up and was baptized at the Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church, San Antonio, Texas where he remained for many years.

He united with the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on June 2, 2001, and quickly became involved in ministries of the church. He joined Usher Ministry #2, was very active in the Rights of Passage Program, Vacation Bible School, All Saints Night, Church on the Grounds, Pastoral Appreciation Committee, and the Brotherhood. If there was food to be prepared and served, Rudy could always be found in the kitchen; on Sunday mornings preparing breakfast, with his team, making certain each item was prepared correctly and ready to serve. During VBS, making certain each meal served was the best, during Church on the Grounds, making sure there was enough food for everyone to be served and enjoy a meal.

He loved his family, encouraging his nieces and nephews to get a good education, and work hard to achieve their goals. Just as he loved to cook for the church, he loved to cook for his family. He could be found manning the barbeque grill with his brother-in-law, Loren, on holidays or special occasions, and cooking and giving directions in the kitchen.

Rudy loved his church, one proud moment was being selected Village Father of the Year in June 2008. His proudest moment was when he was Ordained as a Deacon here at Antioch in 2013.

Rudy was preceded in death by: his father, Rudolph Owens, Sr, his maternal grandparents, Joseph & Ruby Ford; paternal grandparents, C.J. & Katherine Owens; maternal great aunt & uncle Clemmie & Alvis Grant. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mother, Gloria Owens, sisters: Alison (Lorne) Strait and Stephanie Owens; nieces, Breanna Strait, Jasmine Strait; nephews Jordan Strait, Darren Owens; Stepmother Joyce Owens; uncles, Adolph “ Bob” Owens, Elijah “Bo” Owens, Raymond “Lye” Owens, Leroy Owens, Jesse “Jake” Owens; and aunt,Florence (James) Vester.
