Resided in: San Antonio , Texas

Russell Alan Brown, STSC (Ret.), passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends. Born on March 25, 1968, in Glendale, California, Russell was the beloved son of Russell Everett Brown and Delores Matilda Brown.

On November 17, 1990, Russell married his best friend and soulmate, Shannon. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion. As Russell proudly served his country in the United States Navy, Shannon faithfully held down the fort at home, and together they raised a loving family.

Russell dedicated 21 years of honorable service to the United States Navy, retiring as a Sonar Technician Submarine Chief (STSC). His commitment to duty, leadership, and service earned him the respect and admiration of those who served alongside him. Retirement did not mark the end of his service to others. Russell continued to devote his time and talents to the community he loved.

A proud member of the Shriners, Russell held several roles within the organization, including that of a beloved Shriner clown. He found great joy in bringing smiles and laughter to children and families. He was also a dedicated Freemason and served as District Deputy Grand Master for Masonic District 39B, where he exemplified the principles of brotherhood, charity, and service.

Russell never met a stranger. Known for his warm heart, generous spirit, and infectious personality, he was well-liked by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He cherished his many friendships and, alongside Shannon, was often the life of the party. Their home and hearts were always open to family, friends, and anyone in need.

Following his military retirement, Russell worked for Alamo Concrete Company for approximately 13 years, where he continued to build lasting friendships and contribute to his community through hard work and dedication.

Russell leaves behind a legacy of love and service. He is survived by his devoted wife of 35½ years, Shannon Brown; his children, Russell Lee Brown, William Dale Brown, and Rhiannon Juanita Brown; and his precious grandson, Verlin Theodore Alan Brown, who is expected to arrive in July and whom Russell eagerly anticipated meeting.

He is also survived by his mother, Delores Sims; his sister, Natalie Calvet (Dan); his nieces, Amy Ann Calvet and Nicole Catherine Calvet; five brothers-in-law; two sister-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; and countless extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.

Russell’s life was defined by service, loyalty, laughter, and love. Whether serving his nation, supporting his community, mentoring fellow Masons and Shriners, or spending time with family and friends, he made a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Fair winds and following seas, Chief. Your watch is relieved.
