Samuel Lavalda "Sammy" Woods, passed into the loving embrace of the Lord on Friday, December 23, 2016 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Sammy was, born on July 10, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas to father Willie R. Woods, Sr. (deceased) and mother Virda B. Woods (deceased). He was the second of five children and the second son born to the couple. Samuel attended and graduated from St. Peter Claver Catholic School in 1962. There he was recognized for his academic and athletic abilities. He played football on the varsity team and was deemed one of the fastest runners on the track team. Like his parents, Samuel was a valued and trusted employee of Jim Dunworth, Inc. for 55 years, working closely with Jim Dunworth and then with his daughter, Jeanette Dunworth-Buffkin. Samuel is survived by his companion of 5 years and wife of 15 years, Claudine Woods, her daughters, Chaqueena and Ashley Lee and her granddaughter Brooklyn; his former wife and mother of his children, Beverly Woods; his son, George Woods, Sr., his daughter, Stephanie Woods, former wife Lynn Ford-Bomar, his brother Adolph Woods, Sr., his sisters Terrie Woods-Thomas and Daisy Minor, his half-sister, Nona Boyd and his only living aunt, Robin "Robbie Lee" Williams. He is also survived by his son, Terence Mason. He had 8 grandchildren; Latrela, Garland Jr., Alexis, LaGeorgia, LaGloria, George Jr., Samuel ll, and Mercedes along with 5 great granddaughters, Tahlia, Thailand, Cheyenne, Liylah, Anajah and a host of loving cousins, nephews and nieces and friends. He is preceded in death by both his father, Willie R. Woods, Sr. and mother, Virda B. Woods; his younger brother, Willie. R. Woods, Jr., his second son, Garland J. Woods, Sr., granddaughter Shayla Carter and his half-sister, Luetta Williams.
