February 3, 1986 ~ April 7, 2016
Dr. Savannah Nicole Carroll transitioned on April 7, 2016. Savannah was born to Brenda Carroll on February 3, 1986 in San Antonio, Texas. Savannah's intelligence became apparent at an early age of four as she explained to a child at a daycare that watering an artificial plant was inappropriate. Her strong will took center stage when she called Mayor Wolfe to visit her elementary school when two personally written letters had not yielded her desired result. This intellectual spark combined with strong will allowed Dr. Carroll to start taking college classes at SAC in the 4th grade. Savannah earned two Bachelor's Degrees in political science and African American studies from Arizona State University. She also earned an MA and PhD in Afro-American Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has been published in the International Journal of Interdisciplinary Civic & Political Studies and in the Journal of Pan African Studies. She was a 2015 Graduate Scholar Awardee and has received a host of awards and other honors all by the age of 29. She was preceded in death by her father, Brandon Lee Carroll. She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Brenda Rekay Carroll of San Antonio, TX; her grandmother also of San Antonio, TX; aunts; Bridgette and a host of other relatives and friends.
