Sylvia Jean Brown, born July 1, 1945, peacefully entered eternal rest on May 28, 2026, at the age of 80.
A devoted believer in the power of education, Sylvia graduated high school at 16 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Edward Waters College. She dedicated her life to teaching, mentoring, and serving others, concluding her career as an Academic and Career Counselor with Gainesville Job Corps, where she guided young people toward success.
Sylvia also found great joy in praise dancing, expressing her faith through worship and movement.
Her greatest legacy was her family. Through her love, faith, strength, and determination, she inspired generations and fostered careers in education, healthcare, and service. Her commitment to family, learning, and faith remains a lasting foundation for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Daniels (“Madear”), and her sisters, Doris and Carlotta.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Tondra and Kervin Sr. (Holly); grandchildren Ebony (Xavier), Kervin Jr., Nadiv, Dominic, and Frank; great-grandchildren Kai, Leia, Ezekiel, Xoe, and Xara; siblings Anthony and Katrina (Ronnie); nieces and nephews Shaun, Michelle (N’Kosi, Nandi), Brittany, Adriana, and Anthony Jr.; her dear friend Albertha; and many extended family members, friends, former students, and colleagues touched by her wisdom, kindness, and grace.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11am, Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Agape Christian Church, 14303 Judson Road, San Antonio, Texas 78233.
Floral arrangements and plant tributes may be delivered directly to Agape Christian Church.
