Thelma J. E. Dinkla

thelma dinkla
Thelma J. E. Panther Dinkla, known to many simply as "Meemo", entered into eternal rest on September 26, 2012. Born July 17, 1922, in El Paso, Texas, she is preceded in death by her daughter Donna Dreibrodt (Tommy). Surviving children include five daughters and one son: Jeanne Parsley (Eddie), Nicki Dinkla, Corky Jilek, Krisi Dinkla (Terry Meadows), Wendy Doherty (George), and Danny Dinkla (Ceci): one brother, Larry Smith. She also leaves behind the lights of her life: 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A south San Antonio resident since childhood, Thelma met 'Dutch' Dinkla at the family store, Temple Hill Grocery and Meat Market, formerly located at the corner of Hot Wells and S. Presa. With her dry wit and sarcastic sense of humor, Meemo was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by family and friends. To all concerned, she said: "Don't sob and wail when I am gone and think it is such a bummer. The wondrous thing about it all No more stinkin Texas Summer" In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to KLRN or the South Texas Blood and Tissue Bank in her honor.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We’re so happy for the time we had, so sad that we can’t have more. Our condolences to all that we’re touched by our so very special Meemo.

  2. Meemo was a very special and unique Grandmother there are so many memories it hard to focus on just one, but her laugh was unforgettable to everyone. She will be dearly loved and missed.

  3. She was always the Mom, that I thought was so cool. There were times that we(not going to mention any names because all the kids in the neighborhood know what I am talking about, lol!) tested her patience and omg when she got mad, run for your life!! Her laughter you could hear for miles, after all these years I can still hear her and sense of humor! I think as I got older, I understood her more! She was unique in her own way, and will be missed by many!! My prayers go out to all the family, she was something else and always welcomed anyone who came to see her with open arms and one day she will greet all of us again!! God Bless!

  4. Thelma was such a great Lady. I will always remember one night on the patio while I was slowly swinging on the patio swing having one of her cats sitting next to me and Thelma says (Danny don’t swing to fast you might get the cat dizzy.) I feel blessed to have known you.

  5. Meemo: You raised a real star in your daughter, Wendy! You may have looked a bit alike, but your personality shown through in her and seems to have been inherited or modeled in the way Mrs.Doherty conducts herself in sharing a smile, a hug, and a friendship. W.Fred

  6. Thelma was quiet the character, she could always make you laugh. She is with her precious LORD and we are all grateful to have known her.
