Theodore Kevin Canada (Big Plu) was the youngest son born to Theodore R. and Geraldine E. Canada on
March 19, 1963. He was raised in a blended family home with his parents, brothers, Norman E. Johnson,
Durelle A. Canada, and sister Denise L. Nelson-Matthews on the east side of San Antonio, TX.
Theodore attended schools in the SAIS district, graduating from L. W. Fox Tech High School in 1981. In
Junior High and High school, his football positions were Center, offensive/defensive tackle, linebacker
and possibly more. He was also on the golf team, track and field team as a shot put/discus thrower and
played Pop Warner football. His love of sports carried into his mentorship of youth in the Denver
Heights area playing Pop Warner football, always encouraging.
Theodore professed his love of the Lord at an early age, was baptized at and became a member of
Second Baptist Church. Theodore married the love of his life Barbara A. Kelley March 2, 1999.
Although he had worked jobs previously, Theodore began his career as a custodian and maintenance
technician at Second Baptist Church. He took some horticulture courses and decided to start his own
lawn and landscape service. After over 15 years of service to Second Baptist, he left to devote time to
building his own lawn and landscape business, “Do The Right Thing.
Theodore loved and enjoyed family. He was always there to help his mother care for his nieces,
nephews and anyone else that needed his help. Family time was enhanced when he was there, he was
that person that knew how to have fun and bring joy to those around him. Keeping it 100, he
established his own neighborhood watch, music included.
Theodore was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Geraldine Canada, brother Norman E.
Johnson and sister Vickie Joe Canada.
Theodore leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife Barbara, brother; Durelle(Roslyn), sister;
Denise, sister-in-laws; Hughella, Shirley, and Vida, aunts; Jean(Jake) and Doris(Ed), nieces; Patti Lynn,
Vlayne(Lynn), Nicole(James), Audrey, Chaka, and Leia(Marcel), nephews; Kevin(Delores), Brant(Joyce),
Marc, Christopher, Eric(Samantha), Desmond(Angele’), Durelle Jr., Donte and a host of cousins, great nieces, great
nephews and friends.
