It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and dear Friend Vanessa Hersh. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana April 27, 1957, and passed away the evening of January 12, 2025 at the age of sixty-seven.

Vanessa was a vibrant and caring soul whose love for life was matched only by her devotion to her family. A woman of deep generosity and boundless kindness, she touched the lives of everyone around her with her selflessness. Whether she was offering a helping hand or sharing a word of encouragement, her warm heart and gentle spirit were constants in the lives of those who knew her.

Vanessa was passionate about many things, but none more so than golf. She spent countless hours on the course, embracing the challenges and joys of the game with an enthusiasm that was contagious. Her love for golf went beyond just playing—it was a part of her identity, and she made countless friendships through her time spent on the greens.

Beyond golf, she found joy in other hobbies that brought people together. She was an avid player of mahjong and loved to gather around the table for card games, always with a competitive yet friendly spirit. And, of course, she was known for her unique enjoyment of red wine over ice, a habit that became a signature part of her character.

Her greatest joy in life, however, was her family, and in particular, her grandchildren. Vanessa had a special bond with them, always showering them with love, attention, and wisdom. She took great pride in watching them grow and find their own way in the world, and her legacy will undoubtedly live on in the memories she created with each of them.

Vanessa is preceded in death by both parents James Louis Nelson and Laura Simon, as well as her brother Herman Nelson. She is survived by her children Annie Lefler (Reid) and James “Bucky” Nelson, grandchildren Taylor and Harrison, fur babies Mully and Bogey, as well as numerous friends and family. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
