Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

Willie Jean Brazil (née Moody), affectionately known as “Poochie,” was born on September 29, 1945, to the late Katie and Charles Moody. She spent her early childhood in rural Welder, Texas, before moving to San Antonio, where she attended elementary and middle school in the Denver Heights community on the city’s East Side. Later, her mother relocated the family to Beeville, Texas, where Willie Jean would meet the love of her life.

On October 11, 1963, Willie Jean was united in Holy Matrimony to James O. Brazil Sr. Their union was blessed with five children – four sons and one daughter—and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and love.

Around 1969, the family returned to San Antonio. Willie Jean initially pursued a degree in nursing, but her passion for cooking ultimately led her down a different path. What began as a love for preparing meals grew into a rewarding career that spanned more than 40 years. She retired in 2011 as a Kitchen Supervisor with the Bexar County Jail.

Willie Jean was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering love for her family touched countless lives. She cherished time spent with loved ones and found joy in caring for others through both her presence and her cooking. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Katie Moody and father Charles Moody; her eldest son, Charles “Brazil” Moody I; her husband, James O. Brazil Sr.; her beloved son-in-law, Marlon D. Abrams; and her dear friends, Gwendolyn Flemings and Jessie Green Miller.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her children, James O. (Moody) Brazil Jr., Tony Ray (Mildred) Brazil, Char (Brazil) Abrams, and Tranron “Tray” Brazil; her grandchildren, Brandy Edwards, Toni Wright, Antoinette Savala, Whitney Wright, Tomika (Glenn) Tidwell, Charles (Sharlet) Moody II, LeKeisha (James) Williams, Crystal Jones, Le’Bryan “LB” Brown Brazil, Aldanay (Ray) Brazil-Harrell, and Ameeara Moody Johnson; 26 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Willie Jean was deeply loved and will be forever missed, but her legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to family will continue for generations to come.
