October 20, 1953 ~ April 9, 2023

Resided in: Floresville, Texas

Our beloved Winnie May Smith (Mary), entered into eternal rest on April 9, 2023, Easter Sunday. She was born in Worms Germany to the late Willie J. Hoskins and Rita A. Gensomini on October 20, 1953. Winnie was 69 years of age at the time of her passing, just under 6 months shy of her 70th birthday.

Winnie met the love of her life, Jimmie E. Smith in 1987. They were a happy couple for 36 years. Her life turned from dark to light when she met Jimmie. They shared many adventures and built a wonderful life. Together they spread joy and happiness to the many people who knew them.

Winnie was also a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Winnie was the model for what it meant to be a generous, kind, and loving person. Winnie had a great sense of humor and she loved to dance and sing. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and made sure each of them knew how much she loved them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her older brother, Freddy, and younger sister, Rita, all of whom she has now joined in heaven.
She leaves in her memory, her beloved husband, Jimmie E. Smith, her children: Sandra Phillips, Chevis Grieves (Craig), Kevin Phillips (Norma), and Karen Idar (Henry); 9 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous other close relatives and friends.

WINNIE MAY

THE LOVE OF MY LIFE
BY: JIMMIE E SMITH

SHE made me laugh
And SHE made me cry
I’ll never know
Why she had to die
Cause I would have went
And took her place
And said “GOODBYE”
To the “HUMAN RACE”
“WINNIE” was her name
But, she went by “MARY”
And sometimes “SHE”
Could be “QUIET CONTRARY”
But, “THOSE” who knew her
Expected no less
And I was “ONE”
I must confess
But, “SHE’LL” never leave me
Though “WE’RE” apart
Cause “SHE” is “BURIED”
“DEEP INSIDE MY HEART”
And “EVERYWHERE I GO
“SHE”LL
BE THERE WITH ME”
AND IF I “SHOULD FALL
SHE’LL BE THERE TO LIFT ME”
So if “YOU” loved her
The way I surely did
“YOU’LL HUG YOUR MOMMA”
“AND ALL OF YOUR KIDS!”
“Then leave here smiling”
What more can I say
As you say “GOODBYE”
“TO OUR
“WINNIE MAY”
LOVE YOU ALL !
