Woodson Thomas was born on March 23, 1935, to Melvin Thomas, Sr., and Ethel Thomas in Wabbaseka, Arkansas.  He was the fourth child and first son born to this union.  He attended public grammar and high school in Wabbaseka, Arkansas.

Woodson, affectionately known as “Bud”, left home at an early age and moved to Chicago to follow his sister, Ardell Goodwin.  Around this time, he married the love of his life, Bille Gene Caddell, on June 30th, 1957.  He later found employment at a meat packing house before beginning a long career with Roadway Trucking Company in 1960.  He remained there until his retirement in 1998 after 38 years of dedicated service, then relocated to San Antonio, Texas.

He leaves to cherish his memory four daughters; Belind (Kenneth-deceased) Taylor, Glenda (Michael) Hanner, Bille Gene (Thomas) Harris and Winona Marshall.  He also leaves five grandchildren; Michael Hanner, Kenneth Taylor, II, Billie Jean Harris, Kevin Taylor and Kennedy Marshall as well as 14 great-grandchildren.  Bud leaves behind four siblings; Essie Farris, Ruby Baggett, Gloria Hendley and John Thomas along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Woodson “Bud” Thomas was known for his smile and beautiful personality.  He continued to work even after retirement, giving him something to do.  He attended all his grandchildren’s sports and other events.  He was known as the chauffeur of the family-dependable and reliable.  He attended Anointed Temple of Praise Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Bernard Robinson.
