Irene Villarreal De La Cruz, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, entered into rest at the age of 87 on May 15th, 2026. She was surrounded by her loving family and passed away peacefully at home in San Antonio, Texas. Irene was born on December 11th, 1938 in Victoria, Texas to her beloved parents Jose Maria and Mercedes Villarreal, who precede her in death along with her ten siblings. Irene graduated from Southside High School and attended Del Mar College and San Antonio College.

Irene lived a life rooted in kindness, strength, and compassion. She was known for her generous spirit and her willingness to help anyone in need, even strangers. Her caring nature and unwavering independence made her a remarkable role model for her children and grandchildren, leaving a lasting legacy of love and resilience.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Irene loved watching horse races, cheering on the San Antonio Spurs, tending to her garden, and spending time with those she cherished most. She was also a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where her faith remained an important part of her life.

She leaves behind a legacy of love to be cherished by her devoted husband of 57 years, Richard De La Cruz; her children, Rick, Rudy (Cheri), and Reba (Adam); her grandchildren, Luke (Bianca), Melanie (Tino), Sara, Ryan, Brandon, and AJ; and her great-grandchildren, Rylie, Luke Jr., Leia, Raiden, and Ariella.

Irene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
