Born in:
San Antonio, Texas
Resided in:
San Antonio, Texas
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Leola Tilghman, entered eternal rest on March 22, 2024 at the age of 87. She has gone to her reward in heaven. Leola was born on August 26, 1936 to parents: Roscoe and Ceola Smith in San Antonio, Texas.
Leola was baptized at a young age and confirmed a devout Christian. She attended Greater Lincoln Park Temple, where she remained an active member for several years.
Leola graduated from high school, where she earned her diploma in general studies. After high school, she began working. Leola held many positions throughout her work career. She served 20 years as a customer service representative for Dillard’s, and her most recent being an office clerk for Texas National Wildlife services.
Leola met and married, Elmer Tilghman, where they shared a union of 30 years together, raising a family of 4. Later in life, the two separated, but remained close friends.
Leola was a very loving, generous, and kind hearted woman, who always placed God and others first before her needs. Countless memories of her are positive, warm, and never tiring. She was an amazing homemaker who also enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and grandchildren, whom affectionately called her “Mammo,” and reading her Bible.
Leola’s absence is deeply felt, and her physical presence will be dearly missed.
She was greeted in heaven by her parents, and her daughter: Donna Griffin.
She leaves to cherish in her memory: her loving children: Roderick Tilghman, Jock Tilghman (Matrisa), Lisa Smittick (Joery), and Benita Tilghman; 12 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous other close relatives and friends.
